How many years of teaching experience can I bring in to Andover Public Schools?
Andover is looking for the best match of a teaching applicant to the available opening. We hire people with many years of teaching experience, as well as first-year teachers. Likewise, we hire teachers with bachelor’s degrees as well as candidates with doctorates. New teachers with a bachelor’s degree may bring up to 8years of experience to the district and those with a master’s degree may bring a maximum of 12years of experience.
What factors are considered before hiring?
Many criteria are reviewed prior to offering an applicant a position, including information contained in the file, background experiences, education, references, a criminal background check and responses received during the interview.
How long will my application be on file?
Our online application system allows your profile to be retained for one year. However, you must continue to keep your profile current and apply for current jobs posted in order to be considered for any position. Each application is current only as long as the position has not been filled.
Do I have to substitute in the district prior to being hired?
While substitute teaching does offer you an opportunity to become more acquainted with the various schools and principals, it is not a requirement for hiring. If you are interested in substitute teaching, please review the information in our substitute teachers section of this web site.
How will I know the status of my application?
You may check the status of your application through the online application system. If you include an e-mail address, the system will generate an e-mail to you as your status changes. All applicants interviewed are notified once a hiring decision is made.
With whom will I interview during the screening process?
Initial screening interviews are conducted by a member of the Human Resources Department or a building administrator who has been trained in conducting the screening interview.
